Healtheon, Inc. of New Orleans wins $29.8 million water line contract at Stennis Space Center

A test of the Saturn V first stage rocket complex was conducted on Aug. 25, 1967 on the B-1/B-2 Test Stand at NASA’s John C. Stennis Space Center. The test involved simultaneous firing of five F-1 engines. NASA now is preparing the B-2 position on the stand to test the core stage of its new Space Launch System, which will involve the simultaneous firing of four RS-25 engines. Healtheon, Inc. was awarded a $29.8 million contract for water lines for the test stand. (NASA)

Healtheon, Inc. of New Orleans has been awarded a $29.8 million contract by NASA to provide a high-pressuree industrial water line at the Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis, Miss.

The line will provide water for cooling and to suppress noise at the Stennis B Test Complex, which will be used in 2016 to test rocket engines that will be part of NASA’s Space Launch System.

NASA’s SLS heavy-lift rocket and Orion spacecraft, both being built at the Michoud Assembly Facility in eastern New Orleans, will make up the agency’s new human exploration launch system. The SLS is sceduled for a crewless test launch in 2017.

The contract requires Healtheon to complete the job in 530 days, with work scheduled to begin in July.

The construction project includes demolition of existing piping systems, including valves and valve vaults. Healtheon also will build a 96-inch diameter high pressure industrial water line from the Stennis high Pressure Industrial Water Plant to the test complex. That line will be more than a mile long.
